Free dictation tools exist, from built-in voice input to open source projects, and for basic dictation some are good. Here's what $39 buys instead: meeting transcription with speaker names, transcription of any file or link (a 2-hour MP4, a YouTube URL), a managed 1.7B-parameter model that polishes your words after one automatic download with no API key, and every language Whisper speaks, not just English. Free tools ship the dictation part. Parlin ships the whole voice workflow, and someone answers the support email.
